A healthy community is an active one. Understanding community health starts with understanding its activity.
The Activity Growth - Incremental report helps you understand the newly generated volume of this activity - for each period individually, therefore it is great for assessing immediate change and even the impact of seasonality.
As this is an incremental metric, fluctuation of the data is natural, as activity volume is affected by seasonality, events, and public holidays, …

Calculation
The count of community activities generated only within this bucket is calculated for each date bucket.
How to read this data
Each data point represents the volume of activities generated during a period (week/month/…). This volume is independent of any previous periods. If the volume is increasing over time, it means that in each period, your community generated more activities than in the previous one. Even if the volume is constant over time, it means that your community is active, just that the volume of the activity is stable across periods (no growth), which is not necessarily a bad thing.
New integration edge cases
A spike in the chart might be caused by a connection of new integration, for which we are not able to download historical activity data - in other words, your community might not necessarily be more active, you might just include tracking of their activity from a new integration.
Integration activity count edge case
It is worth remembering that not every integration contributes to your activity count the same way.
Some integrations (such as Twitter or Slack) are responsible for a significantly higher count of activities than others (namely InSided or Discourse). In order to understand this, try to take a look at the Activity Growth - Integration breakdown report.
