Twitter Integration

The AhoyConnect Twitter integration lets you sync activities in your Twitter account over to AhoyConnect and use that data in reports to create stunning dashboards.

Twitter is no longer providing end-points for tracking if users follow or unfollow

  • so in Ahoy, we stopped tracking this as member activity
  • this means if someone just follows you and doesn't do any other interaction, they are not being tracked in Ahoy yet.
  • because of that your metrics on member growth might look different as now users who “just followed” are not tracked

Historical data when you connect to Ahoy

  • Twitter doesn’t provide information about a date when someone liked your post, just that they liked it. Because of that for historical data on “likes” you will see them attributed to the date you connected to Ahoy
  • Twitter doesn’t provide information about a date when someone retweeted, just that they did it. Because of that for historical data on “retweets” you will see them attributed to the date you connected to Ahoy

Connecting AhoyConnect to Twitter

To connect your Twitter account, please click +Connect integration in the integrations tab and select Twitter.

This action requires you to be an admin in the respective account.

If you’d like to set up multiple Twitter accounts, you can do so by inviting the owners to your Ahoy account.

This is the page that will allow you to invite as many teammates as your pricing tier allows.


You will now be prompted to Twitter's authorization screen. The app asks for read-only permissions. Click Authorise App.


After logging in to your Twitter account, you will be redirected to the data mapping page.

You will be redirected to the data mapping page where you can connect data you want to map from Twitter (left column) to specific member fields available (right column).

You can see all the possible data fields that we’re able to automatically sync from Twitter in the screenshot 👉🏼

Scoring System

The scoring system can’t be configured during the first 24 hours due to ongoing calculations and the initial automatic setup we provide you with based on the activity in your account.

Events: Add events you want to track and assign them importance from 1 to 10 points for each time the user will perform the action

Activity Stages: Define activity stages by creating your own badges for each stage with its own range of points users need to hit to earn the badge in the last 30 days.

There is no limit to possible granularity when setting up these stages. As mentioned above, during the initial setup (24h) we will propose a possible setup based on the activities in your account.

Once you add the relevant Twitter account, AhoyConnect will begin importing mentions of the linked accounts. We're able to import up to 800 of the most recent mentions. This usually takes a few hours.

Due to recent API changes, Twitter is unable to send us the exact date when a person started following your account. This though is only the case for historical activities. From the moment the Twitter integration was connected, we are able to track and trace everything. Due to API rate limits, the Twitter data is refreshed every few hours only (in case you were wondering)

💡 AhoyConnect will attach tweets to existing member profiles or will create new members if the person who tweeted doesn't already exist in AhoyConnect. Again, this can cause the Twitter members in AhoyConnect to be a higher number than your actual Twitter followers.
