A healthy community is an active one. Understanding community health starts with understanding its activity.

Absolute Activity Distribution

The Activity Rate - Absolute member/activity distribution - Type breakdown report helps you understand the distribution of community activity across its members.

Calculation

For the selected period, the total volume of activities generated within this period from each integration-activity type combination is distributed across all members that are part of your community in this integration at the end of said period. Activity is displayed in absolute numbers on a per-member basis while member count is relative.

How to read this data

In most cases, the community is made up of highly- and averagely-engaged members. Highly-engaged members make up a sizable chunk of community activity, while there are just a few of them, while the averagely-engaged members make up the bulk of the member base while contributing very few activities on a per-member basis. This leads to the absolute distribution curve showing a spike towards it’s end (exponential trend) - this means that for example, 75% of your members take only up to 50 activities per member within the selected period, while the rest 25% of members can take up to 500 activities within the same period. The Type breakdown helps you understand this distribution for each activity type across all your integrations and to compare them.

Granularity

Percentages on the X axis are not rounded, as they represent fractions of the community to a full member. Furthermore, we are showing only up to 300 data points on the X axis in a chart. Because of this, the granularity of data can be low for reports with a lot of data series, as each data series can only have up to 300 / <count of data series> data points. In order to increase granularity, try to decrease the volume of data series by filtering some integrations or activity types out.

Relative Activity Distribution

The Activity Rate - Relative member/activity distribution - Type breakdown report helps you understand the distribution of community activity across its members.

Calculation

For the selected period, the total volume of activities generated within this period from each integration-activity type combination is distributed across all members that are part of your community in this integration at the end of said period. Both activity count and member count are relative.

How to read this data

In most cases, the community is made up of highly- and averagely-engaged members. Highly-engaged members make up a sizable chunk of community activity, while there are just a few of them, while the averagely-engaged members make up the bulk of the member base while contributing very few activities on a per-member basis. This leads to the relative distribution curve showing a plateau (logarithmic trend) - this means that for example, 25% of your members are responsible for 70% of total activity, while the rest 75% of members make up just 25% of activities. The Type breakdown helps you understand this distribution for each activity type across all your integrations and to compare them.
